The Pounder
It was once thought impossible but in recent times limits were pushed further than ever before. What am I talking about? Well in this case a Quarter Pounder with 4 all beef patties! I introduce to you “The Pounder”. In around August 2006 a group of young men ventured around the idea of ordering a burger that would wipe out the meaning of “eating healthy”. That idea then evolved into The Pounder, click here to see. The idea of the pounder was later abandoned due to the lack of confidence at the drive through. One year later, coincidently during Norbert Sy’s return to Australia the idea was revisited. Much preparation and planning was required to make this burger happen. We had to do some research to find out exactly what was going into our bodies. One question that was frequently asked was how many calories were in this beast of a burger? In an average quarter pounder with cheese you’re looking at approximately 510 calories. Some other interesting facts to note is that 45.9% of the calories come from fat, 28.2% come from the carbohydrates and the rest from protein (from a reliable source on the internet somewhere). After looking at the risks vs. benefits we concluded that there was only one thing to do…order the burger! We drove into the McDonald’s drive through along Great Eastern Highway and prepared for the biggest Mcdonald’s burger we will ever come across. However due the lack of confidence we only ordered a Pounder to share between 4 people. The main reason why we ordered a single Pounder was to test whether or not splitting this burger between 4 people would feel like eating a normal Quarter Pounder. When we got home from McDonalds we put this theory to the test. We cut the burger into quarters, poured the fries into a communal bowl and poked our straws into the cokes. One, two, three and we were off! The burger was so incredibly juicy but very OILY! But with the pickles fusing with the onions and ketchup there was no turning back. Verdict? It was just enough to satisfy our hunger but not enough to be called a Quarter Pounder. Would I have been able to finish a full Pounder? No, probably not but if you shared one between two people then Yes. So there you have it folks, this burger was 1 year in the making and has finally become reality. Try if you dare! Below are some pictures of this event,
