Coffee is a widely consumed beverage prepared from the roasted seeds—commonly called "beans"—of the coffee plant. Coffee was first consumed as early as the 9th century, when it appeared in the highlands of Ethiopia. From Ethiopia, it spread to Egypt and Yemen, and by the 15th century had reached Persia, Turkey, and northern Africa. From the Muslim world, coffee spread to Italy, then to the rest of Europe and the Americas. And it eventually got to me.The popularity of coffee drinking still baffles me. The reason why I’m writing about this pungent and bitter drink is because it seems that everyone loves coffee! At work nearly everyone buys coffee. Even going out to a café to have a non-coffee-drink is called “coffee”. For myself I ONLY drink coffee if I need to stay up. Actually if I need to stay up I will eat a couple of table spoons of coffee powder rather than make the drink – YUCK! So let’s have a poll to see who likes coffee.
