How I got engaged - the short version

It has certainly been a long time coming and most of you were probably expecting it sooner or later. It has finally happened. Carine and I are engaged! I'll give you a quick run down of how it happened. Well, it all began in late November when Carine and I talked about the idea of getting married. On Thursday nights we began to casually look at rings. It was in my best interest to take note of what Carine liked and disliked. On one particular Thursday she pointed out a ring that she really liked - I knew that was the one. After work the next day I went back to the shop and made the purchase. The ring itself took roughly 2 weeks to make which meant that I could not propose that immediately. After the waiting I finally got the ring.

The next step was to figure out how I was going to propose to Carine. Originally I had an idea of proposing on a hot air balloon. I made some enquiries and it turned out that the hot air balloon season had just finished. So I guess I had to scrap that idea. Back to the drawing board it was and in the end I decided to do simple.

Carine originally had plans to go out with Theresa (one of Eileen’s bridesmaids) a while back but never happened. So I thought if I could get Theresa to ask Carine out again for dinner I could somehow use situation to propose without making anything obvious. I had everything planned out with Theresa, she was meant to pick Carine up from her house, drive down to the Oyster Bar in North Fremantle, take a walk along the beach and just before dinner Theresa would get a call (from me) and would walk to the car park. From that point I would walk down to the beach and propose.

But….those plans were foiled as Carine turned down Theresa when she asked her out for dinner. I had no choice but to modify my plans. On Monday the 17th I took the day off. At around 3pm I went down to church where Carine usually parks her car for work. I left a note on her car which said to meet me at the Oyster Bar in North Fremantle. She drove down there and I proposed to her on the beach – nice and simple. After the proposal I had booked a table for two at the Oyster Bar. On a random note, during dinner we found a dozen toe nails under our table. For further questions and specific details about the proposal please ask me in person (it’s just a lot easier to explain).
